7th May 2013, Emma Yael changed our lives and family.

We never thought we wanted a photographer in during the delivery with us, we felt it was a very private moment. But we wanted to capture the first moment meeting our baby, and the first moment Finn met his sibling. We did not do a very good job taking photos when Finn was born so I decided to have a friend (who is an amazing photographer) be there to capture those moments. I couldn’t figure out how to have her in there at the right moments without having her there the whole time, and so on our drive to the hospital, Josh and i just decided that it would be great to have her there for the whole delivery, we both agreed that Megan was the best person to have in the room with us as a photographer and friend. We both trusted her and felt very comfortable with her there. And she was a great distraction and company during the early part of labor. I am so thankful she was there, she captured some pretty special and beautiful moments…there are also other moments and faces that I will never want to show to anyone, ever…however some of them I just giggle at because I had no idea or control over my face. There is one in particular where we find out we have had a girl, and I thought my face would just be pure joy, but it seemed to get stuck in a grimace smile thing, its pretty funny. I now know what it means when you read in a book that a persons face “contorted into a grimace”….ha ha.

But here are a few of my favorites from our very short time in the delivery room.

I am now 38 weeks pregnant as of yesterday. this is when i had finn…thanks to gestational diabetes. so far it does not look like the same will happen this time. this past friday josh and i had a date night, and we went to see a movie, i had contractions through the entire movie and thought for sure i would not last the night let alone the weekend, and now the week. but they went away save for a few random ones here and there. and so we continue to wait excitedly to meet our new babe. they have scheduled an induction for my due date (7th May) so unless baby comes before then on its own then that is when we will meet him/her. because i have gestational diabetes and am on medication for it they will not let me go past my due date.

since i did not have the baby this past weekend we were able to take some quick informal photos in our back yard, the three of us and baby bump, thanks to my friend Jess. thought i would share a few favorites. thanks Jess.

a few weekends ago it was the almond blossom festival. the almond trees were in blossom, and most still are. but the weekend was freezing because of the wind. but we decided to check it out and visit our friends Jared and Kori, who had a photo booth there. just before we took our photos finn took a tumble off this very trike and got a fat lip, so we thought it only right to use the same trike in the picture.

we took a long weekend trip away to santa barbara. a kind of babymoon only with our first baby. it was our first little vacation as a family. we had such an amazing time. loved santa barbara.

this was our first day spent on the beach and eating ice creams. finn’s first ice cream, he didn’t finish, so i had to help him out. a last hoorah before gestational diabetes caught up with me ;)

i have more posts i need to share before this one comes into the timeline, but my friend just sent me this photo she took yesterday and i had to share it. she has been taking photos randomly during this pregnancy to capture the baby belly grow. i did not do this when i was pregnant with finn, seems pregnancy makes me lazy with cameras and photos (except iphone photos) but the flip side is that the baby will make me camera happy, so it all evens out in the end i suppose. i am super thankful for Jess for doing this for me this time round. and she has captured some sweet moments with my finn too, which is special. he always wants to be involved in the shoot somehow, and look at the photos after Jess takes them. So i am 30 weeks tomorrow, only 10 weeks to go. time flies! i found out last week i have gestational diabetes again, but i feel more prepared for that news then i felt last pregnancy. i think i was mostly in shock and denial about it the last time i had it. i just keep reminding myself that it is only for 10 weeks. the hardest part of it is not having tea (because i am too stubborn not to have milk and sugar in it), but it will be all the more delicious when i can have it again.

i had a morning to myself this morning. it was supposed to be an art day but i had no panels. but finn’s meme and grandpa still wanted to have him over, so i got a morning to myself. one thing i have thought i would like to do with time to myself is sit at queen bean, a local coffee shop, by myself with a delicious cup of chai tea latte and read or something. so that is what i did, only i didn’t read, i actually spent the morning uploading images to society 6. so technically i still had an “art day” i guess, but just doing admin. but it had to be done. well now i am off to pick up my cute toddler from his grandparents. a morning off and time by myself is lovely and all, but it always makes me so aware and thankful for my little boy and the amazing opportunity it is to be a mother. up close and in the day to day of parenting i don’t always take the time to step back and appreciate the huge blessing that it is and i am just feeling blown away right now by this purpose in life and how honored i feel to be experiencing it, even if blindly most of the time.

And wishing you all a very HAPPY NEW YEAR! a few days late, i know, but we have been busy with various things round here, one being repainting our bedroom, yippee, a task i have been wanting to do for a year now, and love the results, still have things to put up on the walls, but we are working on that.

we did nothing at all to bring in the new year, we were going to watch a movie, but i fell asleep before we could even put it on. but guess what, 2013 still arrived…so yay! so glad the changing years do not rely on my partying skills, because if that were the case, the world would be in serious…danger?….time warp? not really sure what would be the scenario…anyhoo… hope 2013 is a great year!

today, two years ago our lives changed forever. what a joy it has been. finn is such a delight. we are certain he already has developed a great sense of humor and surprises us constantly with the things he finds funny. i guess with the many humorous males on both sides of the family it should not be so surprising, but it is when its your baby. he is a big observer and explorer, and loves riding his motorcycle that he got from nana on his first birthday (came all the way from south africa), he has crazy maneuvering skills, especially around tight spaces in the house (yip we let him ride it in the house). recently it seems his vocabulary increases daily, and he grasps and understands things that again surprise us constantly. he likes to tell us stories mostly with his own made up words and he laughs and acts it out. it is very entertaining. we don’t watch much tv as we don’t have one, but every now and then i have let him watch postman pat (a british show i grew up watching and loved) on you tube, and he loves it, whenever he sees a computer now he says “pat?”. he also watches mickey mouse breakfast club with his grandpa when he is over there, and loves that. he loves any kind of ball and ball game, and has recently started enjoying trains. he still has a dummy (pacifier), but i figure that battle can wait, not too worried have not seen too many 20 year olds with dummies, so i think we will be fine :) the next hurdles for us are potty training and sleeping in a big boy bed. the bed we will start in the new year, hopefully, get him adjusted before the new baby arrives and starts sleeping in the crib. the potty training overwhelms me actually, and again i am not rushing it, i figure he will probably regress anyways after the baby arrives, so i am not going to put pressure on myself or him for the moment. however just the other day he started taking an interest in the toilet, so whenever he says “pee pee” and points to the toilet we sit him on it for a little while, he has not yet actually pee’d, but we have m&m’s ready for if and when he does, and just see if it leads to anything, if it does, then awesome, and if it doesn’t well then we will just wait.

can’t really think of much else to say on the spot right now, i know i have tons to say about my little boy. but the most important thing is that i love him so very much, i fell in love with him the moment i first saw him and somehow that love just keeps growing. Happy Birthday my precious Finn. God bless you madly, forever, and may you know his love deeply, all the days of your life.

yesterday i had my 20 week ultrasound, and we got to see baby bump. my favorite songram is the profile, i loved Finns too (see finns here: http://flyingpips.tumblr.com/post/915410243/we-had-our-second-ultra-sound). baby looks so cute! our baby was all curled up, legs and arms in front of his/her face. and nope we did not find out the gender, everyone will have to wait until the 8th of May 2013 with us.

well last weekend was the Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco. it was a busy build up to it, but we had a blast, and it ended up being a great success and very worth the investment. we would love to do it every year, and even twice a year, the summer one too, (although probably not this summer since we will have a new little ebersole to cuddle).

we stayed overnight in the city at “The Good” hotel…it was good. and walked to union square to look at the christmas tree and christmas lights. all in all a very fun weekend. we did not bring much of our work home with us, which is awesome. a lot of what was left over of Josh’s got picked up by a store (on consignment) in San Francisco, called Needles and Pens, on 16th street, if you are interested. and the rest of my work is on display in a restaurant in turlock. so thats exciting, at least it is not sitting useless in our garage.

this week i have been playing catch up with christmas shopping and organising a few things for finns SECOND birthday!!! not doing anything big for his birthday, in true josh and pips style, but just a small something to celebrate our precious boy who brings so much joy into our world.
